Overview
Storyn is a voice-to-book app for iOS, iPadOS, visionOS, and macOS. The core experience — recording, transcription, and most AI processing — happens on your device. We minimise the data we collect and never sell or share your personal data.
What Storyn collects
On your device (never sent to any server)
- Your voice recordings (audio files stored locally)
- Transcripts produced by Apple’s on-device Speech framework
- Chapters, drafts, edit history, and project metadata you create
- Settings, preferences, and credit balance cache
In your iCloud (synced via Apple’s encrypted CloudKit)
- Projects, chapters, drafts, transcripts, and edit history sync across your Apple devices through your private iCloud account. Apple — not Storyn — controls iCloud encryption.
On Storyn’s servers (only when you use Cloud AI features)
When you tap an action that explicitly uses Cloud AI (Generate Chapters, Generate Draft, Polish, Review Coherence, Integrate Answer, Re-run AI Review), the text content needed for that action is sent securely to Storyn’s Supabase backend over HTTPS, which forwards it to Anthropic (Claude). Specifically:
- The transcript text or chapter content involved in the action
- Your project context (genre, tone, language preferences)
- Your user ID (for credit accounting only)
Storyn does NOT send to its servers:
- Your audio files (those stay on your device)
- Voice notes that haven’t been touched by Cloud AI
- Your iCloud-synced data outside of an active Cloud AI request
On Storyn’s servers (your account)
- Your Apple ID-derived authentication token
- Your email address (only if provided via Sign in with Apple)
- Your subscription state (when subscriptions are available — currently free tier only)
- Your monthly credit balance and reset date
- Audio files uploaded to long-term storage when you explicitly enable iCloud sync. Uploaded audio is encrypted at rest and is accessible only to your account.
What Storyn does NOT do
- Storyn does not sell, share, or rent your data to third parties.
- Storyn does not track you across apps or websites.
- Storyn does not use your data to train AI models.
- Storyn does not show advertising.
- Storyn does not access your contacts, calendar, location, photos, microphone (except while you are recording), or other system data beyond the consent dialogs shown at first use.
Third-party services
Storyn uses three third-party services:
Apple
- Sign in with Apple for authentication
- iCloud for cross-device syncing
- Speech framework for on-device transcription
- FoundationModels (Apple Intelligence) for on-device AI summarisation
These services are governed by Apple’s privacy policy at apple.com/legal/privacy.
Anthropic (Claude)
When you use a Cloud AI feature, the text content of that request is sent to Anthropic via our Supabase backend. Anthropic processes the request and returns a response. Storyn forwards only the data necessary for the requested action. Anthropic does not train on your data without your consent — see their data usage policy at anthropic.com/legal/commercial-terms.
Supabase
We use Supabase as our backend infrastructure for authentication, database, storage, and AI request routing. Supabase processes requests as required to deliver Storyn’s services. See supabase.com/privacy.
Your rights
- Access: All your content is visible in the app. Export to PDF anytime.
- Deletion: Sign out and delete the app to remove your local data. Email us at support@try-storyn.com to delete your account and any server-stored data.
- Portability: Use the export features in the Manuscript tab.
- Withdraw consent: Stop using Cloud AI features at any time; Free tier with on-device AI continues to work.
Children
Storyn is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such data, please contact us so we can delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will update the date at the top and post a note in the app. If the changes affect how your personal data is used, we will require fresh consent before continuing.
